Why Rustenburg is not Johannesburg for this
Three things make the platinum belt genuinely different from a metro deployment, and all three are configuration rather than opinion.
The working day is not nine to five. A contractor servicing Impala, Amplats or Sibanye-Stillwater operations works around shift patterns, and their customers ask questions at the ends of shifts rather than in the middle of the morning. The enquiries that go unanswered here cluster at 05:00 and 18:00, not at 21:00 — which is a different problem from the one an after-hours chatbot is usually sold to fix, and it needs different escalation rules.
Procurement is documentary. Vendor numbers, prequalification, B-BBEE certificates, safety files, SHEQ documents. Half the first-contact questions a supplier gets are really "are you allowed to work here", and those are answerable from documents you already hold — provided the bot is given them and told to refuse rather than guess when it is not sure.
Language is not optional. Setswana first, English universal, Afrikaans common across the older trades. A Rustenburg customer notices an English-only reply immediately.
