DoubleDown AI vs Intercom β€” the short answer

Intercom charges per seat β€” $29 per seat a month at entry on 25 August 2026 β€” plus $0.99 per Fin resolution for its Fin AI agent, in US dollars. DoubleDown AI charges R299 a month per site in rands with no seat count and no per-answer fee. Intercom is the bigger product; whether you need the bigger product is the actual question.

Intercom figures read from its own pricing page on 25 August 2026.

The pricing model

Per-seat pricing
punishes the thing
you want.

Why a seat is the wrong unit for a chatbot

A per-seat price means the bill goes up when more of your people use the tool. That is reasonable for a help desk, where a seat is genuinely a person doing work. It is an odd fit for a website chatbot, where the software is answering and your staff are only reading what it did β€” you end up rationing access to information about your own customers to keep a subscription down.

The same logic applies to a per-resolution AI fee. It is honest pricing and it aligns cost with value. It also means your best month is your most expensive one, which is a hard thing to budget for on a small business’s cash flow.

The other side

Where they beat us.

What they do better

Intercom is a considerably larger and more mature product than ours, with features we do not have and are not trying to build β€” team inboxes, routing, SLAs, SSO, HIPAA support. If you are running a support team, buy Intercom.

We are a South African company registered in January 2026, so we are young, and we would rather you read that here than find it out later. What we can put in writing is narrow and checkable: every price is published in rands before you pay, there is no minimum term on any plan, and the website chatbot has a free 50-message trial that does not ask for a card.

If what you need is a large marketplace of integrations and a decade of product maturity, buy the international one. If what you need is a chatbot that answers your customers in your languages, bills in your currency and has a person on a local number when it goes wrong, that is the thing we built.

Where these figures come from

Every Intercom figure on this page was read from https://www.intercom.com/pricing on 25 August 2026, and is quoted in US dollars exactly as published there β€” nothing is converted, estimated or remembered. Prices change without notice, so check that link before you rely on anything here. If you find a figure that has moved, tell us and we will fix it.

The real questions

Asked before
anybody switches.

The same as everywhere, in dollars. On 25 August 2026 Intercom listed $29 per seat a month for Essential, $85 per seat a month for Advanced and $132 per seat a month for Expert, with its Fin AI agent at $0.99 per Fin resolution. Those are per SEAT, so the monthly figure is multiplied by how many people you put on it, and then converted by your bank at whatever the rate is that day.

Fin is Intercom’s AI agent, and on 25 August 2026 it was priced at $0.99 per Fin resolution β€” you pay when it successfully handles something. That is a genuinely fair model and it is also a variable cost: the better it works, the more it bills. Ours is a flat monthly fee with a message allowance, so a busy month costs the same as a quiet one.

Often, yes β€” and that is not a criticism of Intercom. It is a full customer-service platform built for support teams with multiple inboxes, workflows and SLAs. If you have one or two people answering enquiries and mostly want the website to stop losing leads after hours, you are buying a great deal of product you will not open.

No. The website chatbot is priced per site, not per person, so adding someone to your team does not change the bill.

A lot. Multiple team inboxes, round-robin assignment, SLA management, HIPAA support, SSO, multibrand messaging and a very large integration marketplace. If you need a help desk rather than a chatbot, that is the product for it and we would tell you so.
